Duo Waqáy – Molienda Cafe

On a warm September afternoon behind the National Gallery of Canada we met with Duo Waqáy, the group formed by two amazing guitarists Gabriela Iznardo and Alejandro Vega. There we recorded their interpretation of Molienda Cafe, a classic Venezuelian folk song. The two have been playing together for over ten years and officially as the group Duo Waqáy since 2017. They have put themselves in a unique niche in the Ottawa area by playing music that’s latin with flamenco influences. Latin Roots is the name of their latest CD and they have been promoting it by playing in gigs all around the National Capital Region including a recent show at the prestigious Fourth Stage at the National Arts Centre.

For this particular recording we had a perfect combination of a quiet location and the Parliament Buildings in the backdrop. We chose an area near some trees where an occasional tourist was able to pause and listen while the music played.

Duo Waqáy are amazing and talented guitar virtuoso who put tremendous amounts of emotion and passion into their music. Their unique musical interpretations will definitely tap and resonate with the audience whether it’s performed in a concert venue or else on an outdoor lawn.
